Yes they do. although nowadays it's more of a tourist attraction than a means of transport. When I was young I commuted between West Derby and Rock Ferry and often used the ferry if the trains weren't running which happened quite often. Nice in the summer, not so good in the winter though.

Yes every day, you can just use it as a means of crossing the river or go on a little pleasure cruise.

No,I believe,like most boats,they sail on it rather than over it.

They did last time I was there, from the Pier Head to Wallasey and to Birkenhead,
