All those cliches jduck, you would be hard pushed to find any more.

Liverpool is situated on the west coast fo England on the banks of the river Mersey. It has always been the main trading port for the UK especially to the United States, the Americas and the far east.

The people are renowned for their friendliness and unique sense of humour. Liverpool exploded from a small town at the beginning of the 18th Century to become one of England's great cities in less than 100 years, so has always been something of a melting pot of different cultures, especially Irish Scotch and Welsh, as well as Chinese Scandinavian, middle eastern and Jamaican. Liverpool sadly made its fortune out of the slave trade and hosted the only Confederate embassy abroad during the American civil war.

Liverpool was heavily bombed during the 2nd world war and with containerisation resulted in a decline in post war years, but recently Liverpool (designated European capital of culture) has started to recover.

Liverpool is renowned for many things, architecturally it has the most listed buildings out side of London, its music scene is renowned throughout the world. Theatre, Poetry, Museums and art gallaries are also world famous.

Predominatly Liverpool would be a working class city, but it does have middle class suburbs and Knowsey hall is the seat of Lord Derby, whilst the Duke of Westminster owns most of the city center and lives close by near to Chester. However the British obsession with class does not hold much sway in Liverpool, People are judged on character, not on how they speak.

Liverpool is a great city for a range of reasons, but we must not forget the less pleasant aspects of its history. My dad was born in LIverpool and work at Tate & Lyle's refinery. As someone brought up on the Wirral and studied at the Univ. of Liverpool, here are some personal thoughts: The good points The people , a great testimony to the strength of the mongrels, we are usually part-Irish, part Scots, part Welsh , part Chinese or Afro-Carribean , choose at least two of these. We are an outgoing lot, very friendly; the only cities similar to Liverpool are Glasgow and Dublin. Despite the years of religious antagonism, both Catholic and Protestant branches are now working together in a manner which would have been impossible just a few decades ago. There is a tradition of social innovation, education, and culture. The city has a darker side with its key role in the slave trade, and its poor social conditions for many until recently. We can also be a fairly stubborn lot unwilling to move on; sadly this happened on the docks in the 1950s and 60s. The result was that the workforce and their union leaders stayed still whuile the trade moved away. In the 1980s, the reaction of the city to mass unemployment was to support a very extreme council, bad for all in the long run. To get a flavour of the city and how we got here, I recommend you read Liverpool 800, a great book on this greatest of all cities. I am always proud to be associated with the city of Liverpool.

I'm From there and i miss it terribly, it is a beautiful city filled with sites, culture, and of course all the history you can get in a city. another reason is because that is the home of the Beatles!!! There is so much stuff to do there I won't take the time time to tell you. The people there are great as well! There is a range of classes. I was middle class like most of them there but there is also high class. The people there provide a great atmosphere. You also have to go to a Liverpool FC game at Anfeild. I suggest a game against Manchester United. Those games are the best because of thee atmosphere. Have a nice trip, if your going and I hope I helped

Its brilliant. Im here studying at the university of liverpool, and although liverpool sometimes gets a bad name, it does not deserve it! Its a brilliant, beautiful city, with probably the most friendly residents ever (that is the only stereotype that is true)! The city centre is not too big so you don't feel overwhelmed but it has lots of great shops (lots of new ones), trendy bars, restaurants, clubs, museums. It is/was the European capital of culture so there has been a lot of things going on! As with any city there are people of all classes living in different areas of the city. Its quite an 'arty' city, big on music, theatre and art, but of corse football as well! Liverpool people are also big on fashion, you'll see lots of ladies and men in their designer clothes and their designer bags, but they'll mix it up with high street. Its not unusual to see a luis vuitton bag with a primark dress! I love it basically. Its like a big friendly cool village! I say village because I feel so at home and not overwhelmed like I would in manchester.

Small city. Friendly. Above all every culture well accepted and well blended especially in the south of the city.

Sadly a lazy useless council hence a litter problem plus many boarded up buildings and perfectly structurally sound houses going to absolute waste and causing other problems. A council with zero sense of priorities.

Apparently and according to Liverpool City Council nobody knows who or where the owners of these unsightly and deserted premises are. Then I would rapidly seek and enforce compulsory purchase orders wouldn't you and put the buildings to good use.

If you abandon a car it gets towed away and crushed or auctioned. Same should apply to a building.

A lot of capital retail development in the city centre mainly to the investment benefit of non Liverpudlians and a lot of gross neglect in the inner city residential areas. But all in all for people getting and living together it is a nice upbeat little city. Lots of characters !

Liverpool Dockers were one of the very last stands against scab casual labour and bravely stood firm for five years to defend their livelihoods and related communities against the scourge and disease of right wing capitalists.

Well done Scousers. Respected.
