Next to St John's Market is a tall tower with a revolving restaurant and a radio station at the top. In what year was it built? Thanks.

Here's the Wiki page, I can remember everyone saying there was a fire and that's why it closed but seemingly not.

It's a landmark for navigating around Liverpool town centre if you're not too sure of your bearings !

the Blakes restaurant in Hard Days night is actually quite good for a start. If you're completely loaded - try Panoramic - at the top of Beetham West Tower (you need to book ages in advance) very posh nosh and a fantastic view over the city. Also down by the docks the Malmaisson's brasserie is quite good. Near where you're staying - La Vina does good tapas - piccolino's is good Itallian and there's actually a really good Thai just opposite your hotel. Would also reccomend Zeligs in the new liverpool One complex - Itallian/American fare - usually with live music. Booking advised. Other top end restaurants include 60 Hope street and the london Carriage Works - both on Hope Street up by the Cathedrals.

I'm afraid I'm far too young to remember it as anything other than the Radio City Tower, me old son, but, (according to my ex-girlfriend's dad), it was built sometime during about the early or mid Sixties. I would've loved to've gone up there when it was a restaurant, though, although, revolving? I think that might've knocked me a bit bloody sick, to be quite honest with you, old son! It would've been quite pricey, when it was a restaurant an' all, I should imagine, mate!

66 i think - the restaurant closed a long time ago and it is host to Radio City now.

(I did go there as a child and it was always difficult to find your way back to your table when you came out from the loo - cos it had moved around a bit.)

St John's Beacon is it's name.

If you want a restaurant in the sky now - try panoramic

I don't think there is a restaurant there now. In any event it had a reputation of overpriced and poor quality meals.

opened by the Queen in 1969
